Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX

- Weight Limit (lb): 4-35 (RF)
- Height Limit: 32" (RF)
- Age Limit: Birth-12 or 18 months old
A cheap infant car seat with all the right features? The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX promises a lot, especially in its quest to compete with an already impressive list of budget car seats. With a top weight limit of 35 lbs, a maximum height limit of 32″, a weight of 9.8 lbs, and a 7-year lifespan, the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX makes a good go of it. Features such as a one-hand adjustable handle, a silent shade canopy, and the unique TrueShield technology (that is retired from newer models) push the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX infant car seat into the “premium” bracket when it comes to the feature-set of budget infant car seats (under or around $200). But, despite its attempt to differentiate itself from its competitors with excellent safety extras, the lack of a no-rethread harness design decreases its performance on the ease of use. The biggest asset of the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX, though, is the TrueShield to enhance its protection whilst maintaining an affordable price.

The combination of a 35-pound weight limit and 32-inch height limit, capable of fitting an infant around 12-18 months old, and a better-than-average convenience feature, a 1-hand adjustable handle, make the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX a good entry into the car seat world with versatility and ease of use.
It has features like an adjustable base with four recline positions and a level indicator to ensure correct installation. The seat is also lightweight and easy to carry, making it convenient for parents who need to move the baby in and out of the car frequently.
3. Value for Money
Is the price tag worth it?
At $219.99 ($199 at sale promotion), the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX, on paper, fares well against its competitors. The infant car seat has a unique safety technique, easy to use, comfortable, and durable, but when you dig deep, the lack of advanced features makes its performance lackluster when moving the topic to harness usage and seat cover removal.
However, for parents who prioritize safety, ease of use, and comfort, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is definitely worth the price. More than average infant car seats meet or exceed US safety standards, it comes equipped with TrueShield to enhance its protection for newborns during car rides.
One of the standout features of the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is its easy installation process. The base offers a 4-position recline and a level indicator to ensure a proper fit, and the SnugLock technology allows parents to install the car seat quickly and securely with just one hand.
Moreover, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is designed to keep babies comfortable with its removable newborn head and body support, which can be easily adjusted and cleaned as needed. The canopy provides UPF 50+ protection from the sun, and the lightweight design allows parents to carry the seat with ease.

Dimensions and Width
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX has a compact and lightweight design, making it easy to carry and maneuver with one hand. The exact dimensions of the car seat vary, depending on the specific model and color option, but the average dimensions are as follows:
Height: 30.9 inches
Width:20 inches
Depth: 15.5 inches
These dimensions make it a good choice for parents who have smaller vehicles or need to fit multiple car seats in their car. The seat’s lightweight design also makes it ideal for parents who need to carry the car seat with them frequently, such as when traveling or running errands.
While the compact design of the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is generally a positive feature, some parents may find the seat a bit bulky, especially when compared to other lightweight infant car seats on the market.
It’s important to note, however, that the weight and size of the seat are necessary for providing the needed protection and comfort for infants. Therefore, it’s essential to consider the size and weight of the car seat relative to the car model and personal carrying preferences when making a purchase decision.

Portability
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX weighs 9.8 pounds, which is the same as the other two considered lightweight for an infant car seat – SnugRide SnugLock 35 Elite and SnugRide SnugFit 35 Elite. This weight makes it easy for parents to carry and transport the seat, especially when going on trips or running errands.
The car seat’s portability is further enhanced by its design, which features a comfortable carry handle that allows parents to carry the seat with one hand. The carry handle can also be adjusted to different positions, making it easier to carry the seat at a comfortable angle. Additionally, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is compatible with various Graco strollers, which can make it even more convenient for parents who prefer using the same brand of products for their baby’s needs.
Another consideration for parents concerned with travel is the ability to use the seat on an airplane. The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is FAA-approved for air travel, meaning parents can use it to secure their baby on an airplane.
However, it’s important to note that not all airlines have the same seating arrangements, so it’s essential to check with your airline of choice to determine if the seat is compatible with their seating layout.

Canopy
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX features a generous-sized canopy that protects the baby from direct sunlight and other environmental elements. The canopy is adjustable, allowing parents to expand or retract it as needed to provide shade that best fits the baby’s needs.
The canopy is designed with UPF 50+ protection, which shields the baby’s skin from the harmful rays of the sun. This level of protection is particularly important for newborns, whose skin is sensitive to sunlight and may be easily damaged.
Additionally, the canopy is flexible and can be adjusted to protect the baby from different angles, depending on the position of the sun or other environmental factors. This feature enables parents to easily customize their baby’s riding environment to fit their needs.
Like most infant car seats, the canopy is not 100% covered. If you prefer this type, the Sky Drape in Nuna Pipa and its premium siblings is a good point – but it’s around $100 more expensive or more.
Stroller compatibility
The Graco SnugRide SnugFit 35 Elite infant car seat is compatible with Click Connect™ strollers, making it easy for parents to transition from car to stroller in one click without the need to remove the baby from the car seat. Here is a list of some of the strollers that are compatible with the Graco SnugRide SnugFit 35 Elite:
- Graco Modes™ Click Connect™ Stroller
- Graco Verb™ Click Connect™ Stroller
- Graco FastAction™ Fold Click Connect™ Stroller
- Graco Aire3™ Click Connect™ Stroller

It seems only one color option is available for sale right now. The color is neutral and can be used for both girls and boys.
If you prefer some bright colors for girls, we’ve compiled a few pink car seats and purple car seats.
Headrest and Harness
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX Infant Car Seat features an adjustable five-point harness system that allows parents to customize the harness fit to accommodate a growing baby. To adjust the harness fit, parents can follow these steps:
Locate the harness adjuster strap located at the front of the car seat.
Slide the adjuster strap up or down to loosen or tighten the harness as needed.
Ensure that the harness straps are snug against the baby’s chest, with no slack. The harness straps should be parallel and positioned at or below the baby’s shoulders.
It is important to note that the harness should always be snug but not too tight, with enough room to fit two fingers between the harness and the baby’s chest. This positioning ensures that the baby is correctly positioned in the car seat and provides optimal protection in case of a collision.
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX Infant Car Seat is also designed for comfort, with features such as a plush headrest and five-point harness, adjustable canopy, and soft fabrics. The car seat’s base features an adjustable recline that provides a comfortable position for the baby to sleep or relax while traveling, ensuring a comfortable ride experience.
Reclines - 4 Positions
Having multiple recline positions ensures that parents can customize the car seat’s angle to match their baby’s needs, ensuring optimal comfort and promoting better head and body posture.
These adjustable reclines happen in the base, which allows four different recline settings, ensuring a good fit for both safety and comfort.
The recline feature is essential for the car seat’s ergonomic design, ensuring a comfortable and safe position for the baby when traveling. Newborns require a more reclined position to maintain an open airway and prevent head flop, while older babies may prefer a more upright position for a better view of their surroundings.
This feature can also help parents maintain a safe position for the baby by following the manufacturer’s guidelines for proper installation. Correct installation of the car seat is crucial to ensure its effectiveness in the event of a collision.
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX Infant Car Seat utilizes the SnugLock technology, which provides a secure and proper fit to the car seat base, reducing any chance of movement or shaking during transit.
When installing the car seat, the base’s adjustable recline feature should be adjusted to a suitable position, depending on the baby’s age, weight, and height, ensuring that the car seat is level and provides optimal protection in case of a collision.
In conclusion, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX Infant Car Seat features an adjustable base with four different recline positions, ensuring a good fit for both safety and comfort. The recline feature is essential for maintaining a proper position for the baby, promoting optimal head and body posture, and preventing head flop. The SnugLock technology ensures a secure and proper fit to the car seat base, reducing any movement or shaking during transit, and ensuring a safe and comfortable ride for the baby.
Padding
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX Infant Car Seat comes with a host of features that ensure maximum comfort for the baby, and padding is one of them. It has ample padding to provide a soft and comfortable seating area for the baby to rest in during travel. The seat pad and headrest are made of plush and breathable materials that are soft to the touch and provide a comfortable, cushioned ride for the baby.
The padding on the car seat is carefully engineered to offer a snug fit around the baby’s body, ensuring that the baby is safe and secure while in the car seat. The padding provides excellent head and body support while maintaining the correct position for the baby’s neck and spine, reducing the risk of injury in case of a collision.
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX also features an adjustable headrest that ensures a customized fit for the baby. As the baby grows, the headrest can be adjusted to provide more space for the baby’s head to rest comfortably, ensuring maximum comfort during travel.
Furthermore, the car seat comes with machine-washable fabrics that makes it easy to maintain and keep it clean.
5. Crash Tests and Safety Ratings
Is it safe to use Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX?
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is considered a safe car seat that meets or exceeds all safety standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The seat has undergone rigorous testing, including crash tests, to ensure that it provides an optimal level of safety for infants.
First, it features a five-point harness that keeps the baby securely fastened in the seat. The harness has adjustable straps that allow parents to adjust the fit as the baby grows, ensuring a snug and secure fit every time.
Additionally, the car seat has a SafeSeat Engineering feature – TrueShield, which refers to a set of testing protocols that Graco uses to ensure that the seat meets the highest safety standards. This includes front, side, and rear-impact testing, as well as various durability tests. The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX has surpassed these tests, confirming that the car seat is stable and can protect the baby from different angles and impact directions.
One of the key safety features is its SnugLock technology, which ensures that the seat is properly installed and secured in the car. This technology helps prevent the seat from moving or shifting during an accident, which can reduce the risk of injury to the baby. The SnugLock technology also simplifies the installation process, providing a hassle-free experience for parents.
Moreover, it comes equipped with accessories like the removable infant insert, head, and body support that provide extra protection for newborns. This feature ensures that the baby’s head and neck are positioned correctly in the seat, which reduces the risk of injury in the instance of a collision.
Last but not the least, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX has also been tested for flame resistance and does not contain any harmful chemicals. This feature ensures that the baby is protected from toxic chemicals or accidental fires while sitting in the car seat.
In conclusion, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is a safe and reliable car seat that meets all safety standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The SnugLock technology guarantees proper installation and positioning, and the five-point harness secures the baby in place during travel. The TrueShield, removable infant head and body insert, and chemical-free design are additional safety features that contribute to the car seat’s safety and reliability.
However, it is important to keep in mind that no car seat can guarantee absolute safety. It’s crucial to adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions when installing and using the car seat, read and follow safety instructions, and keep your baby securely fastened at all times.
TrueShield - Side Impact Protection
Trueshield Side Impact Protection is a safety extra of the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX that provides enhanced protection against side-impact collisions. The feature incorporates energy-absorbing foam and a protective headrest to minimize the forces of an impact.
The side-impact protection is designed to distribute the force of a collision away from the baby’s head and body, providing maximum protection in the event of an accident. The Trueshield Side Impact Protection is tested to meet the Graco side-impact testing standard, which is based on the European R44 side-impact standard. This testing ensures that the seat performs well in side-impact collisions.
Additionally, Trueshield is customizable to fit different sizes of babies. The headrest is adjustable, and parents can move it up or down to fit their baby’s unique size and shape. The headrest also provides extra cushioning, which can help reduce the risk of head injury in the event of a crash.
The car seat’s Trueshield side-impact protection feature is durable and can withstand multiple impacts with minimal energy transfer to the baby’s body. It also works in conjunction with the car seat’s five-point harness system, ensuring that the baby stays firmly in place in the event of an accident.
It is important to note that the Trueshield side-impact protection feature is not a guarantee of complete safety in all situations. It is still crucial for parents to follow the recommended installation and usage instructions to ensure optimal safety for their baby. Proper use of the seat combined with Trueshield technology can significantly improve the overall safety of your child
This side impact protection feature can be found on other Graco convertibles and all-in-one car seats as well. It is a pity that this technique discontinues for newer models.
Does this mean that Graco car seats without TrueShield are not safe? Absolutely not. They would include other same-level safety features, for example, the SnugRide SnugLock 35 Elite has an energy-absorbing base while the SnugRide SnugFit 35 Elite features an anti-rebound bar.
6. Performance
Weight and Height Limits
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is suitable for newborns and infants from 4 to 35 pounds and up to 32 inches in height.
The lower limit of 4 pounds is essential for the safety of the baby, as it ensures that the seat provides maximum protection for even the smallest newborns. The upper weight limit of 35 pounds should not be exceeded, as the car seat may not perform optimally if the baby exceeds this weight limit.
Additionally, the maximum height limit of 32 inches ensures that the baby’s head is below the top of the car seat, and the baby’s feet are not against the vehicle’s back seat. This height limit is essential in ensuring that the baby stays adequately protected in the event of a collision.
It’s important to note that as the baby grows, parents should monitor the baby’s height and weight to determine when it’s time to transition to a larger car seat. Most infants typically outgrow infant car seats around one year of age or when they reach the height or weight limit, even before they turn one year. Once the baby has outgrown the infant car seat, they should transition to a rear-facing convertible or all-in-one car seat suitable for their weight and height.

Stage / Modes -1st
The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is an infant car seat, designed to support infants from birth up to 35 pounds and 32 inches in height. Infant car seats such as the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX are usually the first car seat that parents purchase for their newborns.
Infant car seats are designed to be rear-facing, as this orientation offers the most protection for the baby’s head, neck, and spine in the event of a collision. The rear-facing position does not allow for forward motion of the baby’s head during impact, which reduces the risk of head injury.
It supports the first critical months of a baby’s life when they are most vulnerable to injury. The car seat allows parents to keep their newborns in a reclined position, recommended by pediatricians and the American Academy of Pediatrics, which can help prevent the flat head syndrome, reflux, and difficulties with breathing.
Moreover, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is designed to be compatible with strollers. This feature enables parents to use the car seat as a carrier and attach it to a stroller frame, making it easy to transport the baby from the car without disturbing their sleep.

Age Range
The manufacturer does not specify the age limit for the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX. Typically, infants grow at a steady pace, and they usually reach the weight or height limit of the infant car seat around one year of age. Therefore, it is supposed to have a maximum age range of around 12 months (or 18 months for some small infants).
Once the baby has outgrown the infant car seat, parents should transition their child to a rear-facing convertible or all-in-one car seat, which will support them through the next stage of their development. Rear-facing car seats offer extended rear-facing capabilities, providing further protection to the baby’s head, neck, and spine.

Airplane
Is Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX approved for use on a plane?
Yes, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX Infant Car Seat is FAA approved for use on airplanes, provided that it has been properly installed on an airplane seat using the airplane seat belt.
However, it is essential to note that FAA approval can depend on various factors such as the airline, the specific aircraft, and the seat configuration, among others. Therefore, parents should check with the airline before purchasing a ticket to ensure that they are aware of the airline’s specific policies regarding the use of child restraints on airplane.
When traveling by airplane with a child, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX can provide parents with peace of mind and convenience, especially during long flights. The infant car seat can be fitted securely onto an airplane seat using the airplane seat belt, providing optimal safety for the baby during takeoff, landing, and turbulence.
Weighing around 9.8 pounds, the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX is a bit heavier than the lightest infant car seats between 5-7.5 pounds, but this does not affect much on its portability much. Parents can easily carry it onto the airplane and transport it through the airport with a travel bag. The car seat’s compatibility with some stroller frames also makes it easy to navigate through busy airports with minimal disruption to the baby’s sleep or routine.

Lifespan
How long is Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX infant car seat good for
Same as the other Graco infant car seats, the SnugRide SnugLock 35 LX has a lifespan of 7 years from the date of manufacture (DOM).
Due to several factors, like the materials used in the car seat can become brittle, or the car seat may no longer comply with the federal safety standards, car seats are given a limited usable lifetime between 6 to 10 years.
Therefore, car seats should be replaced in conditions:
a) they’re expired; Read our post on what to do with expired car seats.
b) they have been involved in an accident, even if the car seat appears undamaged. The force of an impact can cause unseen damage to the car seat, affecting its ability to protect the baby in case of another collision.
Furthermore, if the car seat has been exposed to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for a prolonged period, it may lose its effectiveness and longevity.
