This review focuses on the second – the Evenflo Shyft DualRide with carry-all storage bag, which is considered more practical at an acceptable price (especially compared to Doona at the same price range). We also list the key features and specs for the three models below so that you can know the slight differences between these three models and choose a suitable one for both your kid and family.
I’ve tested countless car seats, and I can safely say that the Shyft DualRide is up there when it comes to safety and convenience. One of the key reasons for this is the car seat stroller combo design.
The equipped four wheels and frame can be attached to the car seat and turn it into a stroller for easy stroller your baby everywhere, museum or park. This ability to transition freely between a car seat and a stroller is, in my opinion, priceless, especially for frequent traveling families. I’d be surprised if you didn’t feel the same way after your first trip.
While the other key features remain the same, why do I choose the second one? From my personal experience, you’ll always need to take a lot of baby things, like diapers, bottles, and toys when going out with your baby. So a bag or an organizer is a must-have. The large storage bag in the premium and Gold model is worth having.
However, do you need to extend the canopy? Not necessary if you need to pay a little more for this thing. The included canopy is large enough to protect your baby from the outside. But if you don’t mind the $50 gap, getting the Evenflo Shyft DualRide Gold is also a good option.

It is able to work as an all-in-one solution, combining a car seat and a stroller into a single package. The car seat can be easily attached to the stroller frame with wheels, allowing for seamless transitions between car and stroller modes.
As a result, you can easily move your child from the car to the stroller or vice versa, without having to disturb them.
Car Seat with Wheels
Doona infant car seat stroller once was the only infant car seat with wheels on the market. Now here comes the Evenflo Shyft DualRide (three models) to compete with it.
Even better than the Doona infant car seat, the four wheels are a separate piece, which can be attached to the car seat to turn it into a stroller or just leave it attached to the base if you only need to move the carrier and baby.
Another point I think Evenflo Shyft DualRide is better than Doona infant car seat stroller is the wheel wells in the base. They help to store the dirty wheels when using the car seat in the vehicle. That’s really a warm-hearted innovation.
When using the Evenflo Shyft Dual Ride in stroller mode, keep in mind that the brakes are located in the two rear-wheels.

Dimensions and Width
The Evenflo Shyft DualRide has a folding design due to the attached wheeled stroller frame. So it has two types of product dimensions:
One is 18.0 (width) x 18.0 (depth) x 31.0 (height) inches when unfolded, making it seem more compact than a normal travel system with a big stroller.
After folding, the car seat measures 17″ W x 29″ D x 16″ H, offering a relatively compact footprint that is suitable for maneuvering in various spaces. The 17-inch width is very slim among infant car seats and even as good as those models in the best narrow car seats list.
What you need to pay attention to is the space from front to back when installing it with the base, approximately 30 inches, making it less friendly for small cars or car seats with limited space at the back seat or tall front-seat passengers.
Evenflo Shyft DualRide Weight and Portability
(The carrier) Weighing at 9 pounds, the Evenflo Shyft DualRide is not a lightweight infant car seat, especially compared to the 5-pound Maxi Cosi Coral, which is one of the lightest infant car seats.
The overall weight for Evenflo Shyft DualRide is up to 29 pounds with the carrier, wheels, and base. However, this does not affect the car seat’s convenience and portability. After all, you don’t need to hold the infant car seat for a long time but mostly carry it with the baby from the garage to the living room. This short distance won’t be a pressure.
If you don’t want to carry the car seat, you can detach the wheels from the base and connect them to the car seat to turn it into a stroller for easy stroller your baby, if you don’t mind tracking in dirt.

Canopy
The Evenflo Shyft DualRide premium model has a standard canopy that can be opened to multiple positions. When in the car seat mode, the canopy should be placed in the folded position so that it won’t disturb you when installing the car seat.
When you plan to get the carrier and baby out of the car, you can extend the canopy by pulling the tab located at the front of the canopy and pushing the canopy slightly to go underneath the carrier handle. To retract, gently push back to its original position.
As compared and stated above in the three Evenflo Shyft Dual Ride models comparison: The Gold version has an extended canopy, which is actually a peekaboo window to allow the parent to check on their child at any time, just like the Nuna Pipa Lite LX and Lite RX.
To connect the extended canopy to the built-in standard one, you’ll find the zipper in the joining part where you can open it even wider than a standard canopy.
Handle
The carry handle in Evenflo Shyft DualRide is ergonomic and easy for parents to use. It has three locked positions based on which mode it’s currently used: 1. Stroller Mode 2. Infant Carry Mode 3. Storage.
The last two modes are commonly seen in most infant car seats and their handles only have these two positions for use. To use your Evenflo Shyft as a stroller, you should rotate the handle to the position for stroller mode, after moving the handle to carry mode position, and go on pushing it forward until you hear a ‘click’.
If it’s your first time using this type of travel system, try several times so that you can easily manipulate it.
Here is a tip from the manufacturer: Squeeze BOTH handle rotation buttons (two large white buttons on both sides) at the same time while moving the handle between positions to rotate the handle to desired position.
When you use the Evenflo Shyft Dual Ride in a car, the required position is different in the US and Canada. The carry handle must be in stroller mode in Canada while it is in any locked position in the United States.
Stroller compatibility
Due to the wheeled design, you can imagine that the Evenflo Shyft DualRide is not compatible with other strollers, either from its own factory or from other brands. Actually, you don’t have another stroller to work with a Shyft DualRide. It’s a stroller itself.

Okay, I have to admit that Evenflo Shyft DualRide adds more practicalities than the Doona infant car seat stroller while they’re in the same price range.
Storage Bag
This is one reason many parents turn to Evenflo Shyft DualRide from Doona.
The Premium model and Shyft Dual Ride Gold version include a storage bag that is worth $79.99 on Amazon. The storage bag is included in the package – if you purchase the $499.99 basic version, you can choose to get the storage bag or just purchase another type of storage thing.
Doona does not have a bag and there is not as much space as the Evenflo Shyft DualRide in stroller mode. The Doona infant car seat does the basic and necessary – Safety for your baby in the car and ease of use transitioning from the seat of your car to the street.
I have to admit that at the same price (the Premium version with storage bag priced at $549.99 vs $550 of Doona), the Evenflo Shyft DualRide takes parents’ needs into consideration well and provides a very practical solution – the storage bag and cup holder, even the wheel wells in the base.
Headrest and Harness - 8 Positions
8-position harness adjustment might be one of the impressive advantages you’ll get from the Evenflo Shyft DualRide with Storage Bag.
I’ve never seen so many harness positions in an infant car seat. The Evenflo designed this feature to fit a newborn no matter if he is a preemie or an infant of enough months. The lowest harness position is about 5″ (with the infant insert used), ensuring the shoulder straps fit at the proper height on the smallest babies.
Don’t forget the 3-pound minimum weight requirement. It means that this Shyft DualRide travel system is good to accommodate a baby as small as 3 pounds.

The 35 lbs/ 32″ weight and height limit covers a broad spectrum of newborns and infants, allowing them to use the car seat from their earliest stages until they reach the maximum height or weight limit.
Typically, the infants reach the 35 pounds weight limit until the 32-inch height limit. So you’ll always see this statement following the height limit: the child’s head is within one inch of the top of the car seat shell.

Like any other infant car seats, the Evenflo Shyft DualRide is FAA-certificated for aircraft use. The label is located on the carrier. Along with the four wheels design, it’s excellent to have the DualRide travel system for domestic trips.
The stroller frame must be used along with the car seat for the airplane installation. But you don’t need to worry about this, as it’s very likely that you roll it through the aisles of most planes.
However, it’s better to check with your airline before departure to make sure this restraint meets all requirements, including a minimum 45.7 cm (18 in) aisle width for use in stroller mode and a minimum 45.7 cm (18 in) seat width for aircraft installation.

How long is Evenflo Shyft DualRide infant car seat good for
The Evenflo Shyft DualRide has an average lifespan as other infant car seats. It has an expiration date of 6 years after the manufacture date.
But you should note that that’s not real-time for actual use, which should be shorter than 6 years. You can find the label on the bottom of the base or the carrier and confirm how many years are left for practical use.
That’s long enough for an infant car seat. Considering its high price, you may use it for the second or at most third baby after you purchase it for the first kid. However, you should not use it anymore if the car seat was used in a crash.
Warranty
The Evenflo provides different warranty plans for the three different Shyft DualRide models. Only the Gold version is allowed to get a lifetime warranty. And once you register the car seat, you’ll get a free replacement in the event of a crash.
Not this service is available for the other two versions, which get a standard warranty – a 90-day limited warranty.
I understand this would be a marketing strategy – the most expensive Gold version gets the longest warranty and superior service. But you’d better register the car seat to get the warranty as soon as possible, no matter if it’s an extended one or an average one.
Register the car seat so that the manufacturer can alert you in the event of a recall.

Is it safe to use Evenflo Shyft DualRide?
Of course. The Evenflo Shyft travel system may be one of the safest infant car seat on the market. I’m not boasting on this point for the manufacturer. As a consumer and parent, we’d better check out the safety features to make sure the picked car seat is reliable and safe to use for our little ones.
Crash tests
Like all the other car seats sold in the US and Canada, the Evenflo Shyft DualRide has passed the crash tests that are required by the government under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213. In addition to that, it’s side-impact tested, rollover tested and temperature tested (SensorSafe technique).
Something about the third-party websites that offer crash tests and safety ratings: These crash tests may have their own standards but may not be as strict as the federal safety standard. Their equipment and circumstances to carry out the crash tests may not be as good as the government’s.
Anti-rebound bar in the base

7. Evenflo Shyft DualRide Installation
Before starting to install the car seat, you may where to put it. The center of the back seat is probably the safest position to install a car seat.
If possible, install the car seat on that spot. If that seat is not applicable for a proper installation, for example lacking a shoulder belt, either seat on the side would be safe. You may choose any of them based on your family’s and kid’s needs.
Here are the steps to install the Evenflo Shyft DualRide car seat in the car and airplane.
Installing the Convenience Base to the Vehicle
Installing the Base with LATCH/UAS
Before installing the base, make sure: • the vehicle is on level ground. • the wheel wells (pg. 51) are installed if being used.
1. Remove the LATCH/UAS connectors from their storage location under the base, then place the base on the vehicle seat.
2. Pull Recline Foot Release Handle on the base to raise or lower the 5-position recline adjustment foot until the bubble is in the blue zone on the recline indicator.
3. Squeeze the handle on the LockStrong arm and pull it up to open it.
4. Attach the LATCH/UAS connectors to the vehicle’s lower anchor bars. Connectors will make an audible CLICK when attached. Make sure they are attached by pulling firmly on the connectors.
5. The vehicle lower anchors must be as tight as possible. Using your full weight, push the base firmly into the vehicle seat as you tighten the lower anchors.
6. Tension LATCH/UAS strap by pulling on loop until snug.
7. After tightening LATCH/UAS, place any excess LATCH/UAS connector back through belt path opening. DO NOT route it back under the LockStrong arm.
8. Apply pressure to fully close the LockStrong arm. The lock indicator will turn GREEN and an audible CLICK will sound when fully closed. NOTE: If LockStrong arm does not fully close (lock indicator still RED), loosen the LATCH/UAS strap slightly and try closing the LockStrong arm again.
9. Grab base near belt path and pull side to side and front to back to make sure base is installed tightly. Base should not move more than 2.5 cm (1 in) side to side or front to back at the belt path. If base moves more than 2.5 cm (1 in), open LockStrong arm, tighten LATCH/UAS strap a little more, and try again. If base still moves too much, you may need to try a different vehicle seat loca
Installing the Base with Lap/Shoulder Belt
Before installing the base, make sure:
- the vehicle is on level ground.
- the wheel wells (pg. 51) are installed if being used.
- the LATCH/UAS connectors are properly stored (see pg. 48).
1. Place the base on the vehicle seat.
2. Pull Recline Foot Release Handle on base to raise or lower the 5-position recline adjustment foot until the bubble is in the blue zone.

4. Route lap/shoulder belt through belt path opening on shoulder belt side of base and feed through opposite belt path opening. BUCKLE THE BELT.
5. The vehicle seat belt must be as tight as possible. Using your full weight, push the base firmly into the vehicle seat as you tighten the vehicle seat belt.
6. Secure lap and shoulder portions of belt in blue belt path guide, then pull up on shoulder belt from center of base to remove slack.
7. Apply pressure to fully close the LockStrong arm. The lock indicator will turn GREEN and an audible CLICK will sound when fully closed. NOTE: If LockStrong arm does not fully close (lock indicator still RED), loosen the lap/shoulder belt slightly and try closing the LockStrong arm again. NEVER place any part of vehicle belt over LockStrong arm, even in a vehicle with longer buckle stalks. This will prevent proper operation of the car seat.
Some vehicle lap/shoulder belts have a plastic button or extra fold of webbing on the belt. Do not allow these to interfere with belt routing through LockStrong arm. If they interfere: a. Shift base slightly to the left or right to eliminate interference. b. Use LATCH/UAS, or c. Move the infant car seat to a different location.
8. Grab base near belt path and pull side to side and front to back to make sure base is installed tightly. Base should not move more than 2.5 cm (1 in) side to side or front to back at the belt path. If base moves more than 2.5 cm (1 in), open LockStrong arm, tighten vehicle belt a little more, and try again. If base still moves too much, you may need to try a different vehicle seat location, installation method, or both.
9. Lock the seat belt. In most vehicles, you can switch your shoulder belt retractor into locking mode by pulling shoulder belt all the way out and letting it rewind into the retractor. Pull on shoulder belt to make sure it is locking. NEVER install this base using a non-locking vehicle lap/shoulder belt. NOTE: A locking clip may be needed (see pg. 23). Refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for information.
Installing the Base with Lap Belt Only
1. Place the base on the vehicle seat.
2. Pull Recline Foot Release Handle on base to raise or lower the 5-position recline adjustment foot until the bubble is in the blue zone on the recline indicator.
3. Squeeze the handle on the LockStrong arm and pull up to open. CLICK!
4. Route lap belt through belt path openings on base. BUCKLE THE BELT.
5. The vehicle seat belt must be as tight as possible. Using your full weight, push the base firmly into the vehicle seat as you tighten the vehicle seat belt.
6. Secure lap belt in blue belt path guide, then pull up on free end of belt to remove slack.
7. After tightening lap belt, secure the free end of the lap belt back through the belt path opening.
8. Apply pressure to fully close the LockStrong arm. The lock indicator will turn GREEN when fully closed. NOTE: If LockStrong arm does not fully close (lock indicator still RED), loosen the lap belt slightly and try closing the LockStrong arm again. NEVER place any part of vehicle belt over LockStrong arm, even in a vehicle with longer buckle stalks. This will prevent proper operation of the car seat.
9. Grab base near belt path and pull side to side and front to back to make sure base is installed tightly. Base should not move more than 2.5 cm (1 in) side to side or front to back at the belt path. If base moves more than 2.5 cm (1 in), open LockStrong arm, tighten vehicle belt a little more, and try again. If base still moves too much, you may need to try a different vehicle seat location, installation method, or both.
Installing the Infant Carrier Only to the Vehicle
Installing the Infant Carrier with Lap/Shoulder Belt (Preferred)
1. Position the infant carrier on a rear vehicle seat with the infant carrier rear-facing.
2. Route only the vehicle lap belt through the infant carrier belt guides and BUCKLE THE BELT.
3. Lift shoulder belt over handle and around infant carrier. Slide shoulder belt into rear shoulder belt guide.
4. LOCK vehicle lap/shoulder belt. Refer to vehicle owner’s manual for how vehicle lap/shoulder belt locks. In many vehicles, you can switch the shoulder belt retractor into locking mode by pulling the shoulder belt out all the way. Check the vehicle owner’s manual to see how your system locks. To check if the vehicle belt is locked, after you install the infant carrier, pull up firmly on the lap belt between the belt guides. The belt should remain tight if the vehicle system is locked.
5. Push infant carrier firmly into vehicle seat pressing down near the buckle strap between the child’s legs while removing slack from lap belt. Repeat for shoulder belt.
6. Make sure that vehicle belt buckle and hardware DO NOT INTERFERE with the infant carrier.
7. Check the recline angle. Adjust the seat angle until the level line on the infant carrier (pg. 118) is level with the ground. A tightly rolled towel or pool noodle may be placed under the infant carrier, near the vehicle seat back to adjust the angle, if necessary.
8. Grab the infant carrier at the belt guides and pull from side to side and front to back to make sure it is installed correctly. The infant carrier should not move more than 2.5 cm (1 in) in any direction. If the infant carrier moves too much, tighten the vehicle belts more and recheck. 1. Remove the rear wheels from the stroller by pushing the button in the center of the wheel and pulling out.

3. Position the infant carrier and stroller frame on the aircraft seat with the infant carrier rear-facing. IMPORTANT: Most aircraft will require the infant carrier is installed in a window seat to avoid blocking the aisle.
4. Route the lap belt through the infant carrier belt guides and BUCKLE THE BELT. NOTE: It may be necessary to request a belt extender from your flight attendant to secure the infant carrier in the aircraft seat.
5. Push Infant Carrier and frame firmly into aircraft seat, pressing down near the buckle strap between the child’s legs, while removing slack from the lap belt. NOTE: If used, be sure to remove all slack from the belt extender as well.
6. If necessary, tuck the loose end of the lap belt out of the way.

8. Grab the infant carrier at the belt guides and check for tightness as shown on pg. 101. Retighten if necessary. NOTE: Unfasten the SensorSafe Chest Clip during Taxi, Takeoff, and Landing. The SensorSafe Chest Clip may be refastened during flight or once the plane has safely landed and the use of electronic devices is permitted by the flight crew. After landing, be sure to fasten the SensorSafe Chest Clip before removing the Infant Carrier from the aircraft seat.
