Safe, comfortable, and easy to use, what more could you ask for? The Britax Advocate ClickTight is the only 2-in-1 convertible car seat to forgo the standard side impact protection, instead opting to enhance its protective capabilities of all those that came before by adding one or two more layers of SIP for optimal protection. In cahoots with the three layers of SIP, the Advocate ClickTight features a high-strength steel frame, SafeCell technology and thick padding and that’s we awarded it with the best-in-class safety rating (which is quite the accolade considering we have 20 convertible car seats in our 50+ strong database). With the company’s innovative ClickTight technique aided by multiple headrest and recline positions, the Advocate carves out its place as one of the safest and most comfortable convertible car seats.

2. Who Is It Best For?
Will the Britax Advocate ClickTight Be a Good Fit For Your Child and Family?
The Britax Advocate ClickTight is a great convertible car seat for parents looking for a slightly safer ride and easier-to-use travel gear for the kids than the budget entry-level models from Safety 1st, Evenflo, and Graco. It also benefits from the headrest and recline positions of most convertible car seats, and its 10-year lifespan makes it last as long as possible before your kid outgrows the 65 lbs/ 49″ size limit.
This machine is at its best in the motor vehicle – where it can stretch its body on spacious, wide, and large-size cars (its 20.5-inch wide needs a bit more room).
However, it’s on the pricier side and costs around $369.99 without a cup holder. If the ease of installation and better safety is your top priority while the price is not a biggie, we’d suggest you get it to have a try.

3. Value for Money
Is the price tag worth it?
So, is the Britax Advocate good value for money? Absolutely – as long as you make the most out of its premium features.
As mentioned, this is a convertible car seat designed for its protection, ease to use, and comfort. With the impressive three layers of SIP and SafeCell design, it does just as the name Advocate implies.
To put the price into perspective, the Advocate, at $369.99, is comparable to the Boulevard from the same brand. Actually, there is no such high price for a convertible car seat from other brands, not even Chicco. Oops, forget about the Nuna, which is the most expensive car seat brand. Its Nuna Rava is priced at $550.
So we’ll focus on the comparison between these three Britax convertible car seats: Advocate vs Boulevard vs Marathon.

First, let’s address the difference between the Advocate and Boulevard. At the first glance, it’s more or less the same car seat – they sport the same design and most of the same features. But look a little closer, and subtle – but the key – difference emerges:
The Advocate has one more layer of SIP (three rather than two). The extra layer of side impact protection can be obviously seen outer around the frame As a result, the Advocate’s protection outstrips the Boulevard’s by 50%.
The Boulevard is slightly narrower than the Advocate (18.5″ vs 20.5″). As a result, it takes less space and probably fits well in small cars with limited room in the back seat.
The Boulevard is cheaper than Advocate.
Based on these differences, if you’re looking for more layers of side impact protection and are happy to pay more for it, the Advocate is for you. If you’d rather save some money (even though a little) and still benefit from the slim fit for fitting in vehicles of different sizes, the Boulevard is a better fit。
So how about the Britax Marathon? Well, though this is undoubtedly a classic Britax car seat – with the exclusive ClickTight technique for installation and a few safety extras – there’s no shirking the fact of its cheaper price. Compared to the Advocate, the Marathon is:
- $100 cheaper price
- 2-inch narrower
- Slightly lighter
- Two layers of SIP less
Sure, the Advocate is safer (thanks to the two more layers of SIP), but when compared to the Marathon in other ways, the Advocate doesn’t stand out as much as its price tag suggests it should. The main reason is that the Advocate is more expensive while the Marathon has the same credentials of ease of installation, SafeCell technology, and 14-position for headrest adjustment with 7-position of recline.
4. Design
Dimensions and Width
The Britax Advocate ClickTight measures at 23 x 20.5 x 23.5 inches (L x W x H).
In terms of dimensions and size, it is considered a relatively large car seat, and it may not be the best option for families with small vehicles or limited space in the backseat. If you prefer a narrower Britax car seat, the Marathon and Boulevard would be a good fit. Both have a narrower profile at 18.5 inches, meeting the minimum requirement to have a position in our post of best narrow car seats.
However, all three Britax car seats are not as slim as the other narrowest convertible car seats at 17 inches, resulting in that they’re not the best option to fit 3 across.
That being said, the Advocate ClickTight car seat can fit in many mid-sized and larger vehicles, and its adjustable recline positions can help to accommodate different seating configurations. While the Britax Advocate ClickTight is not the narrowest option on the market, it is designed to be relatively compact compared to other car seats in its category. If you have a small car and want to give the Advocate a shot, it’s always best to check the car seat’s measurements against your car’s interior dimensions to ensure a proper fit.

Portability
Weighing around 30.6 pounds, the Britax Advocate ClickTight is considered relatively heavy compared to some other car seats on the market, especially those lightweight convertible car seats.
This weight is due in part to the car seat’s sturdy steel frame, which is designed to provide added protection and stability in the event of a crash. More than that, an extra layer of plastic side impact protection contributes to its heavy-duty frame as well.
The 30.6-pound is definitely not lightweight, along with its bulky design, the Britax does not add portability into consideration while designing the Advocate ClickTight, resulting in a bit of a challenge for some moms, especially short moms to manage it for switching between different vehicles. Luckily, the ClickTight mechanism adds points for an easier and tighter installation.
Car seat weight is not the determining factor in portability. For example, the Diono Radian car seats all weigh around 30 pounds, but they rank top on our best recommendations for portable car seats. That’s because they have a folding design and can be carried as a backpack, making it relatively easy for parents to take them through busy airports.

Cup Holder - None
It’s rare that a car seat does not include a cup holder, especially if considering it is on the higher price side. The Britax does not incorporate a cup holder into its three convertible car seats, including the Advocate ClickTight.
Cup holders can be a convenient feature for parents and children, as they can help to prevent spills and provide a designated spot for drinks or snacks. Sadly, the Britax Advocate ClickTight does not include one.
Having nothing to store the cup in is quite inconvenient. That’s one of the most mentioned complaints about this car seat. The manufacturer provides a purchased option, but you’ll spend another $27.99 to get only one cup holder. The positive point is that the purchased cup holder would be removable and dishwasher-safe.
Color option
The Britax Advocate ClickTight convertible car seat comes in a variety of colors, including
- Mosaic Black
- Otto
- Venti
- Cool N Dry Collection-Gray
- Cool N Dry Collection-Blue
- Cool N Dry Collection-Green
- Cool N Dry Collection-Purple
- Cool N Dry Collection-Black
The color of the car seat is a matter of personal preference and does not necessarily indicate a gender-specific option.
All of the color options listed above could be suitable for both boys and girls, depending on the parents and the kid’s preferences. For example, the Mosaic Black, Venti, and Gray options may be more neutral or gender-neutral, while the Cool N Dry Collection in Purple and Green may be more traditionally associated with girls, and the Gray Scale option may be more traditionally associated with boys.
Ultimately, the choice of color will depend on the family’s personal preferences and needs.

Headrest and Harness - 14 Positions
The Britax Advocate ClickTight convertible car seat has 14 positions for headrest and harness adjustment, which allows for a customized fit as your child grows. The more headrest positions a car seat has, the more chance your kid will get a better fit!
The 14 positions can not only help ensure a comfortable fit for your child at each stage of their development but also ensure optimal protection in crashes.
To adjust the headrest and harness, you can use the car seat’s quick-adjust handle, which is located at the top of the car seat. Lift the headrest up and then move it to the desired height. The headrest and harness can be adjusted independently of each other, which allows for a customized fit for your child’s comfort and safety.
The Advocate ClickTight has a no-rethread harness. This means that you can adjust the height of the harness without having to re-thread the straps through the back of the car seat.
Instead, the harness can be adjusted by using the quick-adjust handle located at the top of the car seat. This handle allows you to easily adjust the height of the harness with one hand, while the car seat is installed in the vehicle.
The no-rethread harness feature can be a significant advantage, as it can save you time and hassle when adjusting the car seat to fit your child. It also ensures that the harness is always positioned at the correct height for your child’s size and age, which can help to maximize their safety in the event of a crash.
Overall, the multiple headrest and harness positions can help to ensure that the car seat fits your child comfortably and securely. The ability to adjust the headrest and harness as your child grows can also extend the lifespan of the car seat, as it can be used for a longer period of time.
Reclines - 7 Positions
The Britax Advocate ClickTight has 7 recline positions for both rear-facing and forward-facing. This number of recline positions ranks top among convertible car seats, only three positions fewer (7 vs 10) than the Nuna Rava but higher priced at $550.
When the car seat is rear-facing, it has seven recline positions, which can be adjusted using a recline lever located at the front of the seat (the recline indicator ball in the blue region). This lever can be used to adjust the angle of the seat base, to ensure that the car seat is installed at the proper angle for your child’s age and weight.
After turning it to forward-facing, the Advocate has two recline positions, which can be adjusted using the same recline lever located at the front of the seat – the recline indicator ball is in the red region. The forward-facing recline positions are designed to provide a more comfortable seating position for your child, while still ensuring that they are properly secured in the car seat.
Adjusting the recline positions can be important for ensuring your child’s comfort and safety in the car seat. For example, a more reclined position may be more comfortable for younger infants, while a more upright position can be better for older toddlers or children. Additionally, the proper recline position can help to ensure that your child’s head and neck are properly supported in case of a crash.
Infant Accessories
Given its high price almost $400, it’s no surprise that the Britax Advocate ClickTight comes equipped with head and body support for newborns and small infants – It would be a doubt if it does not have, just like the cup holder.
The head and body support are removable cushions that are designed to provide additional support and comfort for younger children who may still have developing neck and body muscles.
The head support cushion is used to provide extra support for your child’s head and neck, particularly when they are still unable to hold their head up on their own. This can be particularly important for infants who are still developing their neck muscles, as it can help to prevent their heads from flopping forward or to the side while they are in the car seat.
The body support cushion is designed to raise your child’s body to reach the lowest positioned harness strap slots, particularly when they are still very small or newborns. This cushion can help to keep your child in a more comfortable and secure position while they are in the car seat, which can help to prevent them from slumping or sliding down in the seat.
Padding
The Britax Advocate ClickTight is made of high-quality materials that are good to provide comfort, durability, and safety for your child. The car seat has a steel frame and base that provide a strong, sturdy foundation for the car seat, while also helping to absorb and distribute crash forces in collisions.
The car seat’s padding is thick and plush, which helps to provide additional comfort and support for your child. The padding is made from a combination of foam and polyester materials that are soft to the touch, yet still, provide the necessary support and protection.
The car seat also features an easy-to-remove cover that is machine washable and dryer safe, making it easy to clean and maintain over time. The cover is made from a soft, breathable fabric that is machine washable to keep your child comfortable and cool, even on long car rides.
5. Britax Advocate Safety Rating and Crash Tests
Is it safe to use Britax Advocate ClickTight?
Moving to the best part of this car seat. The Britax Advocate ClickTight is probably the safest car seat among the three (vs Boulevard vs Marathon), under the same condition that the car seats are installed and used correctly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
It meets or exceeds federal safety standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and has been tested for side-impact protection, which is an added safety feature not required by all car seat manufacturers.
In terms of crash tests, the Britax Advocate ClickTight has been tested in various types of crash scenarios, including front-impact, side-impact, and rear-impact crashes. The car seat has also been tested for occupant retention, structural integrity, and ease of use. These tests have been conducted by independent organizations, such as Consumer Reports and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), as well as by the manufacturer.
The car seat also includes several safety features to help protect children in the event of a crash, including
- A steel frame that helps to absorb and distribute crash forces.
- A ClickTight installation system that ensures a secure and easy installation of the car seat in the vehicle.
- A 5-point harness system that helps to keep children securely restrained in the car seat.
- Side-impact protection includes energy-absorbing cushions and deep side walls to help protect children’s heads, necks, and torsos in the event of a side-impact crash.
Overall, the Britax Advocate ClickTight convertible car seat is designed with multiple safety features and has passed various crash tests to help ensure its safety and effectiveness in protecting children during car rides. However, it is important for parents and caregivers to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation and use to ensure the car seat is being used correctly and effectively.
Side Impact Protection
As mentioned above, the Britax Advocate ClickTight does have side impact protection (SIP) to help protect children in a side-impact crash. According to the manufacturer, the car seat has a three-layer side impact protection system, which includes the following:
Foam-lined headrest
The car seat’s headrest is lined with energy-absorbing foam that helps to further protect the child’s head and neck in the event of a side-impact crash.
An energy-absorbing shell
The car seat has a deep, energy-absorbing shell that helps to absorb and distribute crash forces away from the child’s head, neck, and torso.
Side-impact plastic cushions
The car seat also includes external cushions on either side of the seat that is designed to help absorb crash forces and provide additional protection for the child’s head and torso. This is very similar to the Cybex Sirona S’ extra liner SIP. But the latter is adjustable while the plastic cushions in Advocate are fixed.
These three layers of side-impact protection work together to help reduce the risk of injury to the child in the event of a side-impact crash.
6. Performance
Weight and Height Limits
The overall height and weight limits for the Britax Advocate ClickTight are 65 lbs and 49 inches. As the car seat can be used in rear-facing and forward-facing modes, it’s better to know the details for each mode:
Rear-facing: The car seat can be used for children weighing 5-40 pounds and up to 49 inches in height.
Forward-facing: It’s suitable for children weighing 20-65 pounds and up to 49 inches in height.
It’s worth noting that the Britax Advocate ClickTight’s rear-facing weight limit of 40 pounds is as high as the weight limit of many other convertible car seats on the market. This can be an advantage for parents who want to keep their children rear-facing for as long as possible. See also the best car seats with extended rear-facing.
If you want a longer rear-facing, along with the ClickTight installation system, the Britax One4Life is good to have. The 50-lb rear-facing weight limit makes it one of the best rear-facing car seats 50 lbs.

Stage / Modes -1st and 2nd
The Britax Advocate ClickTight is a convertible car seat, which means that it can be used in two different car seat stages.
The first is the rear-facing harness. In this stage/mode, the car seat is installed facing the rear of the vehicle, and it is suitable for newborns and young infants. The weight and height limits for rear-facing mode are 5-40 pounds and up to 49 inches, respectively.
After your kid outgrows the weight or height limit, probably the weight limit comes first for Advocate, you’ll need to turn it to the forward-facing harness mode. The car seat is installed facing the front of the vehicle, and it is used to accommodate older toddlers and young children. The weight and height limits for forward-facing mode are 20-65 pounds and up to 49 inches, respectively.
Convertible car seats like the Britax Advocate ClickTight are designed to grow with your child and can typically be used for several years, depending on your child’s growth and development. When your child outgrows the weight and height limits for the rear-facing mode, you can switch the car seat to forward-facing mode and continue using it until your child is ready for a booster seat.

Age Range
The age limit is not specified by the manufacturer, which gives an estimated age range in the car seat manual. The age requirement is not as strict as the height and weight requirements because the child’s growth pace is different. However, here are some estimated age ranges based on the height and weight limits given by the manufacturer:
Rear-facing mode (5-40 lb/ 49″): Typically, infants can use the car seat from birth, and they can continue to use it in rear-facing mode until they reach the weight limit for this stage. The top 40-pound weight limit is good for kids around 2 years old. If so, the Advocate is okay to be used in those US states that require a child to stay rear-facing until 2 years old, like New York, Virginia, Washington, etc.
Forward-facing mode (20-65 lb/ 49″): Children typically move to this stage when they outgrow the rear-facing mode, usually around 2-3 years old. Children can continue to use the car seat in forward-facing mode until they reach the weight and height limits for this stage. This may be around 5-7 years old, depending on the child’s growth and development.
It’s worth noting that the age ranges for each stage are estimates and may vary depending on the individual child’s growth and development. Following the weight and height limits specified by the manufacturer would be better and more accurate than following the age recommendations.

Airplane
Is Britax Advocate ClickTight FAA approved for use on a plane?
The Britax Advocate ClickTight is FAA approved for airplane use. This means that the car seat has been tested and certified to meet the safety standards set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for use on airplanes.
In terms of carrying the car seat to the airport, the weight and dimensions of the Britax Advocate ClickTight may make it somewhat challenging to transport. The car seat weighs around 30.6 pounds, which is on the heavy side compared to the majority of other car seats in our database.
Additionally, the car seat is fairly large, which may make it difficult to carry through crowded airports or to fit into smaller vehicles.
However, the car seat’s ClickTight installation system can make it easier to install and remove the car seat quickly, which may be helpful when navigating airport security and boarding processes. Also, some airlines may offer gate-checking services for car seats, which would allow you to check the car seat at the gate and pick it up again when you land.
While the Britax Advocate ClickTight is FAA approved for airplane use, transporting the car seat to the airport and on the plane may require some planning and effort, particularly given its size and weight.
If you need to travel with the kids, it’s better to have some lightweight convertible car seats or those that are easier to carry like having a folding design.

Lifespan
How long is Britax Advocate ClickTight car seat good for
Like all car seats, the Britax Advocate ClickTight convertible car seat has an expiration date. The car seat’s expiration date is printed on a white sticker located on the bottom of the car seat.
The exact expiration date of the car seat may vary depending on the date of manufacture, but the Britax car seats generally have a lifespan of around 10 years. So does the Advocate.
Why does the car seat expire? This is because, over time, the materials and components of the car seat can degrade and become less effective at providing protection in the event of a crash.
It’s important to check the expiration date of your car seat regularly and to replace the car seat once it has expired, even if it appears to be in good condition. Using an expired car seat can increase the risk of injury in case of a crash.

7. Britax Advocate ClickTight Installation
Before starting to install the car seat, you may where to put it. The center of the back seat is probably the safest position to install a car seat.
If possible, install the car seat on that spot. If that seat is not applicable for a proper installation, for example lacking a shoulder belt, either seat on the side would be safe. You may choose any of them based on your family’s and kid’s needs.
