Will the Maxi-Cosi Pria be a good option for your child and your family?
First things first, the Maxi-Cosi Pria is a great all-in-one car seat.
Though it’s perfect to ride a kid from day one to tween, its large size and lack of portability mean that it’s not a great fit for switching between different motor vehicles.
It’s budget-friendly for families on a tight budget, costing less than most competitors.
Given its price and specs, it strikes the middle-ground for those who’ve graduated from a more moderate model, such as the Graco 4Ever DLX but aren’t yet ready to open their wallets to the likes of the Diono Radian 3R.
With the tons of padding perfectly complementing the less sturdy frame, the Maxi-Cosi Pria is built to withstand safe and comfortable riding as much as other models.
Plus, the bright color options are very appealing for little girls if you have a toddler girl. Of course, this does not mean the Maxi-Cosi Pria is not suitable for boys. There are 12 color options and you can always find one to suit your boys or girls.
3. Value for Money
Is the price tag worth it?
It’s certainly not cheap – not as cheap as Diono Radian 3R, you get a good bang for your buck, especially when you consider that its stage rivals that of the Britax One4Life which is more than one hundred dollars more expensive.
Sure, it’s a whole $90 more expensive than the Diono Radian 3R, one of the closest 3-in-1 car seats to the Maxi-Cosi Pria on paper.
But anyone who’s ever loved colorful looks and padded cushions will know which child restraint comes out on top – and why it makes sense to make that extra ninety dollars’ worth of investment.
On the other hand, if the higher rear-facing height limitation isn’t overly important to you, but the higher booster weight and height limits and more reclines are, then I highly recommend taking a look at the Britax One4Life.
Alternatively, if you like the all-in-one car seat with an additional backless mode, you should strongly consider the Graco 4Ever DLX.
It delivers most of the specs and functionality of the Maxi-Cosi Pria but costs just $20 more.
4. Design
Dimension and Width
It’s a huge thing – You may easily get a direct conclusion when you have the first sight of the Maxi-Cosi Pria 3-in-1 car seat, even from its image.
You have a very sharp distinct sense. This unit is really bulky in width, depth, and height.
It features a dimension of 24.75″ (H) x 19″ (W) x 23.5″ (D) when you take it out of the package. But when you want to install it on the back seat, it may take a bit more space, especially if you need to install it rear-facing for newborns or small infants.
To fit newborns at a perfect recline, the Maxi-Cosi Pria is almost flat and takes up to 33.5-inch depth from front to back. That occupies a lot of space for the front passenger.
Things go a bit better for installing it forward-facing. It will need 26-inch from front to back, leaving not much space for the driver or front passenger, but accepted anyway.
The 19.75-inch width is not narrow enough to achieve the 3-across fitting. That means the Maxi-Cosi Pria is not suitable for families with several kids in a car seat, even if you have large SUVs.
Portability
You won’t believe this – the Maxi-Cosi Pria just weighs 17.8 pounds, which might be the best lightweight 3-in-1 car seat. However, this does not mean it’ll get a high score in portability, due to its large size.
Why is the Maxi-Cosi Pria so lightweight? The probable reason is the cushion. As you can see, this unit has tons of padding that provides max comfort.
The memory foam is lighter but larger than the steel for the frame, resulting in a big but lightweight car seat.
But it’s not as portable as the Diono Radian 3R, which is 8 pounds heavier than Maxi-Cosi Pria but more portable for the slim and folding design.
Two Cup Holders
The Maxi-Cosi Pria 3-in-1 car seat has two cup holders – with one on each side.
The cylindrical cup holders are big enough to hold a baby water bottle and you can even put your kid’s snacks in the cup holder.
Made of dishwasher-safe materials, the cup holders can be easily cleaned. You just need to throw them into a dishwasher if they get dirty. That’s an inevitable thing for toddlers.

If the baby is too small to fit well in the car seat, Maxi-Cosi Pria includes an insert to keep them safe and comfortable.

If we take the Maxi-Cosi Pria’s overall performance as one, its 100-pound weight limit and 52-inch height limit would be good for big 7 year or 8 year olds.
Splitting it into different stages, the 40-pound top weight and 40-inch top height would be perfect to ride a toddler to 2 years old in rear-facing, making it an excellent option for states with rules that require 2 years old or younger to ride facing the back.

Up to 10 years of time from its manufacturer date. This is quite basic for a 3-in-1 car seat.

Before you begin installing the seat into your vehicle, did you check:

For children who can sit up unassisted, you may rotate the child restraint to be more upright in Position 2.
3. Recline the Car Seat
Pull out on the recline handle and push the top of the child restraint back. The recline handle is at the front of the car seat and under the pad.
4. Check if Your Vehicle Belts Will Work With This Child Restraint
This is very important because not all vehicle belts will work with child restraints. Review your vehicle owner’s manual to determine what kind of vehicle belt you have and how to lock a child restraint in place.

It may be easier to tighten the belt by reaching into the RearFacing Belt Path and pulling the free end of the belt towards you and parallel with the belt path as shown.

Securing Child in Car Seat

The child’s bottom and back should be flat against the car seat. Position harness straps over your child’s shoulders and upper thigh
2. Buckle Harness
Push buckle tongues into the buckle until you hear them “click”. Pull up on harness straps to make sure the buckle is locked.
3. Fasten Chest Clip
Insert the right half of the chest clip into the left half and snap it together.
4. Tighten Harness
Pull the harness adjustment strap straight out to snugly tighten the harness.
5. Position Chest Clip
Slide chest clip up the harness straps and position it at mid-chest (even with armpits) and away from the child’s neck.
6. Check Harness Tightness
Unfasten harness covers. Try to pinch the harness at the shoulders vertically between the index finger and thumb as shown.
If your fingers slip off, the harness is tight enough. If you can pinch the harness strap, tighten it more.
Fasten harness covers. A snug strap should not allow any slack. It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging. It does not press on the child’s flesh or push the child’s body into an unnatural position.
Finished! The child is now secured in the car seat. Check your child’s fit often and make any needed adjustments to the car seat as they grow.

Booster Installation with Lap/Shoulder Belt Use
You must store the harness system when using the Booster Seat mode.

The vehicle seat back must be upright.

Route the lap belt portion of the vehicle belt through the booster belt path as shown. The lap belt should lay snugly across the child’s upper thighs and not on the stomach.
4. Buckle the Vehicle Belt
Pull up on the lap belt to tighten.
5. Position the Shoulder Belt on the Child
Pull up on the shoulder belt to tighten. The shoulder belt should lay under the In and Out Harness Holder as shown.
The shoulder belt should lay snugly across the center of the child’s shoulder and across the chest and not on their face or neck.
Only use the shoulder belt positioning guide in the headrest if necessary to help position the shoulder belt correctly on the child.
