Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight

We compare the Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight – two well-known harnessed boosters that we have reviewed and extensively tested.

The Graco Tranzitions is, perhaps, the most affordable toddler car seat we’ve reviewed in recent memory. Its two-car seat stages and three-car seat modes helped it attain incredible popularity on Amazon with more than thirty-six reviews.

The Graco Tranzitions car seat is also stacked with tons of premium features, including ProtectPlus engineering technology, side impact protection, dual cup holders, and simple harness adjustment.

It is one of the few harnessed boosters with the backless mode – meaning that it can be turned into a backless booster for big kids around 6 or 7 years old (who would prefer this mode over the high-back mode).

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight is a beast harness booster with a top 120-pound and 63-inch size limit that last longer for taller kids. The Britax Grow with You ClickTight comes with a lower-priced base version with 2 layers of side impact protection and a premium version with 3 layers of side impact protection.

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight has ferocious performance – installation within three simple steps. The Grow with You CT ensures an easy installation in the center of the back seat with the vehicle seat belt.

Both safety seats share high-quality construction and pack the essentials and some extras.

Both have a solid build. The Graco Tranzitions comes standard with plastic frames and the Britax Grow with You CT comes standard with a steel frame. Both car seats are safe to machine wash for saving time or for delivering max comfort with regular cleaning.

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Size Limits

Both Graco Tranzitions and Britax Grow with You ClickTight are good car seats with a 5-point harness for up to 65 pounds and 49 inches size limit. This allows your child to stay in any of the two car seats until they grow around 5 years old.

But the Britax Grow with You ClickTight has a bigger size limit in booster mode: 120 lbs vs 100 lbs and 63″ vs 57″ (of Graco Tranzitions).

However, the 120-pound and the 63-inch combination is not necessary because most US states allow children to get out of a car seat when they reach 57″ tall.

But if you insist on using a car seat for big kids over 57 inches and if they would like to stay in a car seat, the Britax Grow with You ClickTight is worth a try. Or taller kids who grow a bit faster than their peers can use the Britax Grow with You ClickTight.

However, we don’t think taller or older children would like to stay in a car seat at 8 or 9 years old. They prefer pretending to be mature enough to wear a seat belt like an adult. That’s why backless boosters are more appealing than high-back boosters to big kids.

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Modes

Both the Graco Tranzitions and Britax Grow with You ClickTight are combination car seats that are able to last two car seat stages in multiple modes: forward-facing and booster.

Graco Tranzitions is brilliantly designed with two separate parts that can be detached and successfully transitioned into a backless booster from the high-back mode. It’s kind of a 3-in-1 car seat (very different from the all-in-one).

Britax Grow with You ClickTight was designed as one whole piece and only allows for high-back mode.

A Highback booster is safer than a backless booster as it provides body and torso protection.

However, due to many moms’ experiences and suggestions, older kids around 6 or 7 years old (in states where kids at this age still need a car seat) would be conscious of friends’ choices and they prefer a backless booster over a high back booster.

They want to enjoy the window view, or just don’t want others to know that they are still using a car seat.

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Installation

Both the Graco Tranzitions and Britax Grow with You ClickTight support installation with the LATCH and seat belt.

Unlike the premium models from Graco, the Tranztitions car seat does not have rigid LATCH connectors. It is not equipped with an integrated belt lock-off either. So the installation might be a bit harder than the Britax Grow with You ClickTight, which has Quick-Push rigid LATCH connectors and more importantly, the ClickTight technique.

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight emphasizes seat belt installation due to the ClickTight technique. It is the best-recommended way to install the car seat in the user manual. ClickTight performs better than any other technology to ensure an easier installation

ClickTight should be the best selling point for a Britax car seat and makes the Britax car seats pricey. That’s why Britax Grow with You ClickTight is more expensive than Graco Tranzitions. The former is even more than double the price of the latter.

Graco Tranzitions

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Safety Standards and Bonus

Both the Graco Tranzitions and Britax Grow with You ClickTight have definitely passed the crash tests under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 213.

Both car seats provide side impact protection if used in the 5-point harness mode.

But the Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 car seat has a plastic frame, even though it is solidly built for protection and durability. It seems less strong than the Britax Grow with You ClickTight, which comes with a reinforced steel frame.

The Graco Tranzitions is packed with Graco’s ProtectPlus engineering technology and is capable of 360-degree protection if any crashes happened from the frontal, side, rear, or rollover.

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight boasts about its SafeCell technology (the red crumple zone you can find at the base) and V-shaped tether for protective performance via crash energy absorption and stability.

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Other Features

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Design

Both the Graco Tranzitions and Britax Grow with You ClickTight seems very slim. They do, with the same width at 19 inches. This width is not suitable for fitting 3 across, but good for two-children families.

However, Graco answered that the seat pad is 18-inch in width. It’s a bit narrower than the specs provided on Amazon. We don’t believe the dimension on Amazon boasting that it’s 17.4-inch wide. If so, the manufacturer should have the slim fit design as a good selling point.

It’s obvious that Graco Tranzitions are less competitive compared to Britax Grow with You ClickTight in the overall design.

The Graco Tranzitions was designed to satisfy basic protection needs, while the Britax Grow with You ClickTight has a few goodies packed in it. That’s why the latter is more expensive ($139 vs $339).

Both are not lightweight car seats. But the Britax Grow with You ClickTight is a bit heavier, due to the base (we supposed this might be the leading factor) that is used to find a perfect recline position for max comfort.

The Graco Tranzitions harness booster has only one color option right now on Amazon and its official website. The Kyte (pink) is not available now. It’s a pity. Otherwise, it will have a position on our best pink car seats list.

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight provides nine colors for choice. If you want one for toddler girls, the Mulberry is preferable. It’s very similar to purple.

Graco Tranzitions

Britax Grow with You ClickTight

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Comfort

Britax Grow with You ClickTight is apparently more comfortable than Graco Tranzitions, because it has a base that will provide a recline option to adjust the car seat.

Yes, the Grow with You ClickTight has a base, just like the Chicco MyFit. But its base supports only two reclining positions, a bit less than the Chicco MyFit’s four positions.

However, less is better than none.

The Graco Tranzitions car seat does not have a base for adjustment. This is one of the major down points.

Luckily, it includes a body insert to help small toddlers to keep upright in the car seat. As we know, toddlers under 4 years old are hyperactive, even in a car seat.

Both car seats are made of machine-washable fabrics. The comparison between Britax Grow with You ClickTight and its siblings on Amazon indicated that the ClickTight version is not made of machine-washable fabrics.

But the manufacturer makes it clear on the official website that you can machine wash the Grow with You ClickTight.

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight has one lower-end and one higher-end sibling. The former does not have the ClickTight technique and machine washable fabrics. It’s cheaper, under $200 (the same price as the Chicco MyFit).

The Plus version has one more layer of side impact protection, up to 3. That is the same as the Advocate.

Both are good car seats with cup holders.

The cup holders included in Graco Tranzitions are removable and dishwasher-safe. They are a big step moving from the Graco Extend2Fit, which has two built-in cup holders.

Without any luck, this happened to the Britax Grow with You ClickTight. The two large cup holders are integrated into the seat pad, taking up a few spaces, and are not as friendly for fat kids as Graco Tranzitions.

Headrest and Recline Positions

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight performs better than Graco Tranzitions in this comparison.

The former allows for a 9-position headrest adjustment, one more position than the Graco Tranzitions.

What’s more impressive is the reclining position. The Britax Grow with You ClickTight gives you 2 positions to adjust the car seat for an ideal fit angle. While the Graco Tranzitions car seat has none.

You can easily find that the Graco Tranzitions lack a base while the Britax Grow with You ClickTight has a base, which results in a heavier body.

Usable Life Before Expires

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight has a two-year longer lifespan than Graco Tranzitions.

Due to the plastic frame, the Graco Tranzitions last only 7 years from the date of manufacture.

The Britax Grow with You ClickTight makes most of the metal frame and is more durable for 9 years of use. That’s the longest among the harnessed booster seats and one-year longer than Chicco MyFit but is still one year shorter than most convertible or all-in-one car seats.

A more popular model (Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight) may have been recently made (manufacturers may have a faster supply chain for the most popular car seats to ensure the stock.).

Popularity and Price

Apparently, the Graco Tranzitions car seat is more popular than the Britax Grow with You ClickTight (and other harnessed boosters).

On Amazon, the Graco Tranzitions received over thirty-six thousand reviews while the Britax Grow with You ClickTight is just reviewed by a bit more than four thousand users.

Price should be the deciding factor. Graco Tranzitions has a name among the cheap car seats under $200, while the Britax Grow with You ClickTight is more expensive than the double price of its competitor ($339 vs $139).

You can even get most non-Britax all-in-one car seats at this high price, for example, the Graco 4Ever DLX 4-in-1 car seat

As a matter of fact, if you can’t afford the ClickTight version, a cheaper model without the ClickTight features is also available. But there are lots of cheaper and better alternatives without the ClickTight feature.

Aircraft Use

Both the Graco Tranzitions and the Britax Grow with You ClickTight are FAA approved for airplane use in harness mode. But they are not portable or foldable car seats for air travel, better to use them in a car for road trips.

Graco Tranzitions vs Britax Grow with You ClickTight: Verdict

This is a very competitive matchup because both car seats offer distinct advantages.

The Graco Tranzitions is competitive with the Britax Grow with You ClickTight but tends to get edged out in the performance categories.

The Graco Tranzitions is significantly cheaper and if you’re willing to accept some fewer premium features, it has nearly as much safety and comfortable performance.

The Graco Tranzitions will accommodate kids from 1-year-old toddlers to tweens around 7 or 8 years old. We prefer the roomy inner space – especially the removable cup holders taking less space – over that of the Grow with You ClickTight.

Additionally, the Graco Tranzitions has a backless mode that can save you money for another backless booster seat. If you can get the Tranzitions for around $139 it’s a steal and significantly less than the Grow with You ClickTight.

On the other hand, the Grow with You ClickTight has a higher top size limit and better all-around performance. It also has a base for different reclining positions. Though it is heavier, it will be more suitable for families with taller toddlers and kids, and don’t worry too much about the budget.
